LITE-ON IT 4X DVD+RW ReWriter: LDW-401S

I would like to buy one. Seemingly the best buy today.

LITE-ON IT CORP., has started to deliver its first half-height ATAPI/E-IDE 4X DVD+RW ReWriter: LDW-401S. This DVD ReWriter is able to write DVD+R media at 4X maximum, rewrite DVD+RW media at 4X, and read DVD-ROM media at 12X maximum. It takes around 15 minutes to backup 4.7 GB data on a certified DVD+R/DVD+RW media at 4X. LDW-401S is also an Ultra-Speed CD-RW drive. It can write CD-R media at 40X maximum, rewrite Ultra-Speed CD-RW media at 24X maximum, and read CD-ROM media at 40X maximum. LDW-401S has the best CD-R/CD-RW writing/rewriting performance in the market of DVD ReWriters.

Built-in SMART-BURN technology provides buffer-under-run-free function and great media compatibility for high-speed writing DVD+R/DVD+RW/CD-R/CD-RW media. Innovative SMART-X technology provides smooth & stable Audio CD/VCD/DVD playback and high-performance DAE/VCD/DVD data extraction. 2MB buffer memory is available for stable DVD recording. Power saving function is also ready.

August 8, the price in Europe, without VAT, is about 150 € (corresponding to about 175 US dollars).

Comment:

LITE-ON is the leading manufacturer in the world of CD-RW drives. To be noted, LITE-ON has decided to support only the DVD+RW standard and not the DVD-RW standard. A multi-burner also supporting the fading DVD-RW standard would be about 20 dollars more expensive. The market is moving towards low price DVD-burners costing about 100 dollars. This gives very little room for extra features not fully motivated.
